White blood cells
The number of white blood cells, 6-8 thousand / liter, a variety of shapes, colorless, their size is between 5-20 microns. The white blood cells are divided into two groups according to their shape and function: granulocytes and agranulocytes.

granulocytes can be divided into three groups:
Neutral form (neutrophils)
Acid form (eosinophils)
Alkaline form (Basofil)

The blood also contains young or immature granulocytes (Jugend) and the rod (stab forms).

Total number of leukocytes. It relies in carrying out further calculations. For example a person total number of leukocytes - 5 g / l. Stab neutrophils or 2% (2 x 5)/100 = 0.1 g/l, 70% segmented neutrophils or (70 x 5) / 100 = 3.5 g/l, eosinophils 3%, or (3 x 5) / 100 = 0.15 g/l, monocytes 5% or (5x5)/100 = 0.25 g/l, lymphocytes 20% or (20 x 5)/100 = 1 g/l.

Band neutrophils (stab neutrophils) cells are younger forms of cells presented with kidney-shape, curved nucleus and not segmented, lobar nucleus. Usually they are represent 3-5% of leukocytes. Increased value indicates a higher demand and expenditure of neutrophils, and is called “left shift” (referring to ratio of immature to mature forms of neutrophils).

If the neutrophils are “pelgerized”, all the other blood cells are to some extent affected. In the peripheral blood smear, almost all granulocytes are in the stab form.
