'Petrushka's Cry'

English to Japanese Art/Literary Music Music History
This is a title of an unpublished piece of music for piano and orchestra by Stravinsky which was extended to become the ballet "Petrushka" (1911) that we know today. The original piece was incorporated into the ballet as its second section.

The original French title is "Le cri de Petrouchka" (with an acute accent on the e).

Does anyone know if there is a standard translation for this? If not, I'd like some suggestions.

Given the story, I don't think 叫び would be suitable, but then I may be wrong...

Thank you!

ペトルーシュカの悲鳴 (or 泣き声)

Don't know any standarad translation (doesn't mean it is non-existent).
If you think 叫び is inappropriate, these are my choices.
悲鳴 could be due to grievance, fear, or similar gravely unfavorable situation.

ペトルーシュカの嘆き (or 涙)

Couldn't find any standard translation. Neither 嘆き nor 涙 is a direct translation of the word "cry", but I thought these might be options for a title of the music piece.

The following is their literal meanings:

嘆き: grief, grieving, distress
涙: tears, weeps

Just a suggestion... :)

ペトルーシュカの涙

ありました。http://www2a.biglobe.ne.jp/‾ballet/s_odoru.html

A common question asked of composers is, "What were you imagining when you composed this?" No one can really knows except the composer. Stravinsky gives us the answer:

In composing the music, I had in my mind a distinct picture of a puppet, suddenly endowed with life, exasperating the patience of the orchestra with diabolical cascades of arpeggi. The orchestra in return retaliates with menacing trumpet blasts. The outcome is a terrific noise which reaches its climax and ends in the sorrowful and querlous collapse of the poor puppet. (14)
