English term

Free (adjective, unconstrained, without bonds)

English to Japanese Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Music
Hi folks,

This is for a t-shirt... looking for the best single phrase that means "free" as in "a free spirit," someone who is unconstrained, without bonds, not in servitude.

(Not "free" as in "costing nothing")

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... I know there's various ways to say this, I'm hoping for the phrase that will immediately strike you as meaning "free" in that sense as soon as you see it..

Thanks much!

Jiyuu (自由)

One suggestion, probably the most common way to say this.

You could add to this if you wanted, such as:
自由人 child (person) of freedom
自由な心 free heart/mind
etc.

agree Minoru Kuwahara : same as translation of the word "freedom". ie. "we're hoping for peace & freedom." -

agree Iyasu Nagata : I agree but here's a suggestion: for a T-shirt, you want it to make a statement, i.e. "I'm FREE!" in that case, I'd go with 自由人, if you want the statement to be, similar to mulberry field's example, "we want freedom", contact me for more suggestions

自由奔放

This is just another suggestion. This term means "freewheelingness".
