English term (edited): constructive interference

but = 構成干渉 according to b-files.hp.infoseek.co.jp/lib/JP-A-2000-39831.html or 干渉による強め合い according to another reference.

I guess it follows that "deconstructive" would be the opposite of this but I have no idea of the correct way to render that in Japanese...

上記のconstructive interferenceと相反するdeconstructive interferenceの定義は見つかりませんでしたが、参照ページの用例から、相反概念として｢弱め合う干渉｣が使用されているのは明らかなようです。deconstructiveは一瞬、デリダ？とか思ってしまいましたが。

They interfere in deconstructive and constructive ways.>同位相と逆位相の干渉が発生します。

光を電磁波として取り扱うと２本の光ビームをどの地点で受けるかにより空間位相変調が発生します。これが干渉です。同位相の２本の光が空間変調されると光りエネルギーは大きくなり。逆位相の光が空間変調されると弱くなります。極端な場合はエネルギーがゼロとなり、暗くなります。

注意>逆位相は-180度位相の違うことですが、当然-90度位相の違う状態も起きえますが、逆位相で読者側には理解できると思います。

ちなみに光干渉が起きると干渉縞（interference fringe）できます。

　光の干渉性を利用して，情報を乗せた信号光を感光材料に記録/再生する方式。一般に空間光変調器（SLM）によって光源から出た光を2次元バーコード状に変調し，信号光を得る。この信号光と，同じ光源から出た光を別経路で導いた参照光とを干渉させ，その干渉縞（ホログラム）を媒体中に記録する。再生時は，同じ条件でホログラムに参照光を照射する。これにより，信号光が復元されるので，固体撮像素子などで検出し，元のデータを得る。
