Bom, para mim, tem um erro de conceitos matemáticos aqui: quando pegamos dois pontos (ex.: 3h e 9h), o que temos é uma reta, e não um plano.
Para definir um plano, precisamos de pelo menos 3 pontos não colineares ou então uma reta e um ponto fora dessa reta, por exemplo.
Na minha opinião, o autor errou ao usar "plano" aqui. Mas não sei se cabe a nós, tradutores, corrigir erros conceituais como esse.
Tentei sugerir uma tradução que consiga veicular a ideia que o autor pareceu querer transmitir, mas sem chegar a corrigi-lo:
along the 3 o'clock - 9 o'clock plane
no sentido do plano que vai das 3h às 9h do relógio
Fica a sugestão!
