I still remember that time, they were as many of them as "ordinary/normal" secretaries, if not more.

And then that specialised profession just disappeared, together with punch cards being used as input for computers.

Same as people specialized in manually making technical drawings - profession vanished, all done by CAD software today.

Some people think that being translator is headed to the same direction, thanks to so-called "Machine Translation", but I'm not convinced about that one. Not in any foreseeable future.

Strictly speaking this is not so much about "art", it's more about innovations "disrupting" existing markets, killing off some professions and creating new ones.

Who remembers nowadays that the first "computers" were in fact people doing manual calculations? Or that decades ago there was a large number of "typists" specialised in inputting data on Hollerith cards?
