service mark definition
A`"service mark" is defined as "a mark or device used to identify a service offered to customers". Basically, it's an image or picture or design that identifies the brand. A good example would be the Nike "swoosh" (the image that looks sort of like a "check" mark that's on everything they make). I've never heard of a "trade dress" and couldn't find a definition. HTH.

Only the first sentence of the answer below is correct. The rest applies to trade marks, NOT service marks, which are the identifying marks of services! (like post office, yellow pages)
