In other words, the back (plate) of the instrument is going to give way if it blows up, hence "blowout back".

If you check out the Ascroft website (above), they say, over 10 million variations of pressure gauges are possible.Which one are you interested in?Ashcrofts don't say more about the feature, than the asker's question. You can ring them up.
