I'm not terribly sure. I think it sounds more coherent in French, and there isn't quite a perfect English equivalent to so fashionable and artistic a phrase.

agree Julie Barber : agree with general meaning although not sure about 'arranged'. The French bourrées isn't too nice...but I think that it would have to be 'filled' at least or something like that

the clothes/dresses with false inserts and artificial padding

..just a thought...I guess the dresses are made so that the shape of the person wearing them is 'enhanced'- as shoulder pads in the forties and eighties and padded bras etc, not to mention corsets....to change the shape of a person-although of course these werent actually part of a dress!
