French term

la chaine ait été equilibrée

To chemistry lovers!

Le détail du dosage d'un produit par HPLC inclut la préparation des solutions, les conditions chromatographiques, un test de conformité; et dans ce dernier: vérifier que "la chaine ait été équilibrée" pendant un laps de temps correct.

the system has been equilibrated

A 'chaine HPLC' is an HPLC system. You always have to equilibrate the system before doing any analytical procedure (assay in this case).

Both calibrate and equilibrate are very ordinary terms for lab use. Stabilize isn't used in the context, and mroe importantly, it's not a translation for 'équilibrer'.
Peer comment(s):

agree Carolingua : Indeed--"calibrate" means to verify the accuracy of the instrument, whereas equilibrate means to bring into balance or stabilize the system. I believe both steps are necessary, but this refers to "equilibrate", esp. given they mention the time laps.

Calibrate and equilibrate aren't the same thing. Here they are equilibrating, not calibrating.

Peer comment(s):

agree Carolingua : "stabilize the column" might be more specific than "equilibrate the system", though I agree with both suggestions

the system is in balance

as it is an ongoing procedure perhaps a change in tense makes more sense in the U.K.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Karen Tkaczyk : That's not how we say it in labs. If you use the present tense you would have to say 'the system is in equilibrium'.
