From a diplomatic report sent by the German ambassador in Constantinople to the chancellor in 1916:

"Es handelt sich hierbei um zwei provisorische Gesetze:
1) Das Gesetz vom 14. Mai a.St. v.J., von dem ich mich beehre, eine deutsche Uebersetzung in der Anlage beizufuegen..."

Okay, so the law is dated May 14th of last year, but a.St.?

The Ottoman empire used a different calendar (as did the Russians). I don't know when the changeover to the modern system occured.
