German term

abgesetzt

German to English Medical Zoology chemotherapeutic studies
From an experiment using live piglets.

Die Tiere wurden vom Herkunftsbetrieb in den Versuchstall überstellt, *abgesetzt*, und während der nächsten 7 tage mit dem im versuch verwendeten Futter ohne Wirkstoff gefüttert.

Is this just "set down", or is their a specific meaning of absetzen in the handling of animals? Schönen Dank im voraus.

Discussion

Friderike Butler Sep 1, 2005:
It seems odd that the animals are first handed over and then dropped off...
Friderike Butler Sep 1, 2005:
Could it be that "abgesetzt" is used hier as in "absetzen von etwas ess- oder trinkbaren"? The animals have to come "off" other foods/ substances and then start to participate in this experiment?

taken off

the animals were taken off [the substance]
I am concluding this from tha fact that they were then
fed their regular food "ohne Wirkstoff"
