“To style” means to create and develop a distinct appearance/image for a product.
In the meaning of the result of such process, “styling” is used in these examples from professional writing:
(1) “Planned style obsolescence occurs when designers change the styling of products so customers will purchase products more frequently, due to the decrease in the perceived desirability of unfashionable items.”

(2) “... industrial designer George Nelson, who wrote: “Design... is an attempt to make a contribution through change. When no contribution is made or can be made, the only process available for giving the illusion of change is ‘styling!’””

(3) “The innovative styling of products such as NATURAL CREATIONS® luxury vinyl tile and REJUVENATIONS™ sheet vinyl has helped earn the company a top spot in Design, while admired product attributes like durability, sustainability in manufacturing, longer life spans and low maintenance options have contributed to Armstrong’s longstanding leadership in Performance.”

(4) “This ‘aesthetic illusion’ is established through the appearance of commodities themselves, through the semantic of the product itself. Thus a ‘technocracy of sensuality’ runs through the origination, shaping and promotion of products and in turn shapes consumer expectations. In part his somewhat apocalyptic text may be linked to the styling of products through the application of a ‘second skin’. Cars have to look as well as be fast.”
