a (an ecto)parasite in the wound

A "bicheira" is any ectoparasite--a tick, fly, screwworm, etc. But for the reader 'parasite' says it all. No need to add 'ecto-'.

Example from Linguée:

(carrapatos, mosca-dos-chifres e bicheiras).

I doubt that it would be a fly - it could be a larva - Cochliomyia are commonly referred to as the New World screwworm fly
