Depends on how formal or informal the whole process was. If it was formal, I would say 'observed', as usually people in the fashion industry observe collections in order to come up with trends which are then published in magazines. If it is informal usage, 'kept an eye on' could be used - which is quite a broad expression as it would cover any aspect of involvement that the person had in observing the designer's collection.
