Another marketing thing to be considered. The author is referring us to Nike corporation history with the key principle of biz prospering (due to Filipp Knight, the founder) which can be put like "always be the first/#1!).
Please mind, that "potianuts'ia" in itself has a spec. connotation for its a part of русской поговорки "будьте проще, и к вам потянутся"

да, согласен, но как все-таки передать смысл "потянутся" за, ибо по контексту к-я Найк, используя имидж первоклассных мировых спортсменов, все еще во многом остается законодателем (или одним из законодателей) спортивной моды. Равно как и любителем нетривиальных (агрессивных) маркетинговых ходов. "Тянуться" могут потребители к бренду, "подтягиваться за" Найком - конкуренты.. Т.е. в данном случае имеем авторское "будьте первым, и к вам потянутся". Или, "победителей не судят, их любят".

"к вам потянутся" и "за вами потянутся" - не совсем одно и то же.
что-то вроде the example you set will be appealing or attractive to others и will follow you, will become your supporters, resp.
Да и не поговорка это вовсе, а так, присловье, выражение, вставляемое в речь для цветистости словес и кудрявости смысла

As to connotation, I'm not sure that it's present in this very context, as here we have "за вами" and not "к вам". And in this way it would not be very clear why you are to be No. 1 - if you are surrounded by friends (according to connotation) that doesn't mean you get success, and if you are followed by others it means that you are the leader and No. 1 for those who follow you.

I do agree with VooDooMooRt - it sounds better without the ending "you".
Still, I'd go with "...and others will follow"
