Discussion

Dylan Edwards (asker) Nov 27, 2010:
I was considering "original" vs "reproduction", and raised this point with the client. The client told me to use "on location" because "they'll know what it means".

The distinction between натурная and репродукционная still seems slightly odd to me, and I wonder if it's the result of something hastily translated into Russian.

disagree Andrei B : landscape = an area of land that is beautiful to look at or that has a particular type of appearance (various dictionaries) Do buildings fit into this definition?

i.e. direct shooting on site vs. reproduction photography — shooting a photograph to reproduce it.

Yeah, but I'm struggling to express this in English properly. Perhaps "original photo" vs. "reproduced photo"?
Note from asker:
Taking a photo of the building(s), as opposed to taking a photo of a photo - seems straightforward enough. Thank you.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Andrei B : натурная съемка is a term to be translated into a precise English equivalent. There's no term as location photography// Never late to learn more; find precise equivalent in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panchatantra// I'm here not to teach you. Good luck!

"precise" is a poor choice of modifier for "equivalent", I'm afraid; as for "there's no such term as", I'd hardly figure your definition of "there is such term as" so http://tinyurl.com/353brlt // Panchatantra is not even English. // Take care.
