Spanish term

inversiones que tienen dimensión de país

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Economics
Hi, I would appreciate your help with this term.

Context isn't much, but I think it is saying that the size of the investment would be equivalent to a size which a country would handle. The rest fo the context is just political talk that has nothing to do with these investments

"Son inversiones que tienen dimensión de país."

Thanks :)

investment in relation to magnitude I think the asker is right. It just refers to investment in relation to magnitude of the country.

Suerte!
Robert Mavros (asker) Feb 11, 2010:
Cabría decir algo como: great investments for a great country; investments with the dimensions of our great country; ....?

investments the size of a country

t doesn't make much sense to me in either language, but this is the translation!
Note from asker:
thanks:) It's a quote from a politician, maybe that's why it doesn't make sense ? ;)
I have thought something along the line of "the size of an investment a country would handle"

investments comparable in magnitude (size) to the economies of some countries

Something appears to be missing in the Spanish to make full sense, but a possible reading could be this. However, it is probably little more than a guess.

thanks :)

agree Ruth Ramsey : This is how I would interpret it also.

investments that rely on country-specific fluctuations

I've translated the exact term "dimensión de país" as "country-specific fluctuations" in the past. And got very good feedback from the client on that occasion (which is rare!)
