Help with searching reference posts Thread poster: Helen Shiner

On a number of occasions recently, I have wanted to check reference posts I have made to Kudoz questions without being able to remember to which question they would have belonged. Whilst we all have access to a list of the Kudoz questions to which we have submitted answers, I would find a similar listing of the reference posts I have made very useful. If that listing could be searchable by keyword, so much the better. Or is there a way of doing this already that has passed me by? | | | Russell Jones United Kingdom Local time: 16:19 Italian to English
Hi Helen I do understand your point; it could certainly be helpful. I think you might get a better response (particularly if you get support here, which you could refer to), if you did one of the following: Submit a support request Post in the ProZ.com Suggestions forum Use the "Ideas" tab (top right). In the meantime, a not too busy Moderator might be willing to search for you, as we have access to Users's reference comments. ... I thought I would wait to see if a more obvious method presented itself, but I will certainly suggest it to the powers that be, if not. Since I can't remember sufficient details of what and why I posted the reference material, I would need to see a list of my reference posts to be prompted. It is not urgent or serious enough to impose on a moderator's time in this way, but it is interesting that they can see the information. | | | Phil Hand China Local time: 23:19 Chinese to English Doesn't Google do this for you now? | Sep 10, 2011 |
search for your name, a keyword from the topic, and restrict the search to site:proz.com/kudoz Doesn't what you want just pop up?

You need the keyword, though, don't you? Just as it is useful to have a list of Kudoz answers submitted, I would find a list of reference posts useful. You may have better recall of what you did in 2008!! | | | Phil Hand China Local time: 23:19 Chinese to English
if you know approximately what you're looking for, coming up with a keyword that is very very likely to have appeared somewhere on that page shouldn't be too hard. I mean, you're saying you'd recognise it if you saw it in a list; so you must be able to come up with some closely related word that could narrow the search sufficiently for you. I dunno, I just always hated the old highly ordered, highly structured set up where you could find anything if and only if you knew its position... I love the Google alternative, whereby things can be linked lexically. I no longer desire a structureed world, just a searchable one. It's Googlisation of the brain, jump aboard! ▲ Collapse | | | Helen Shiner United Kingdom Local time: 16:19 German to English + ... TOPIC STARTER
Thanks, Phil, I've been using Google for years and do know how it works. I also know that it did not help on these occasions. | | | Good idea - adding a tab to one's KudoZ activity page | Sep 11, 2011 |
I think Helen brings up a good idea. When we look at our KudoZ activity page, the tabs show: Point totals, Stats, Asked, Open Questions, Answered. I think it would be a good idea to add one more tab, for "References posted" or something like that, with a similar format as the Asked and Answered pages, showing all the reference comments posted by the person, in reverse chronological order. Yes, I think that would be a good way of handling it. | | | How about these? | Sep 12, 2011 |

Thank you. In the meantime, Russell has kindly sent me a list of all my reference posts. | | | Added to list of suggestions | Sep 12, 2011 |
Hello all, Thanks for the suggestion, Helen. It has been added to the list of ideas for KudoZ improvements to be evaluated for possible future implementation. Regards, Lucia

Thank you very much, Lucia. Apart from its usefulness, it would be another indication of a translator's contribution to the Proz.com community. In some ways, even more than Kudoz answers, given the fact that points are not awarded for making reference posts. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Help with searching reference posts Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
