Fellow CafeTran user Hans vd B is currently testing CafeTran on Ubuntu (running in a VM). He asked me to post this nice screen shot and promises to send his impressions quite soon .

It works very well on OS X, which might be clue that it'll work on Ubuntu too. You'll have to do some tests yourself, I'm afraid.
I think you'll like CafeTran very much. Just today Igor created a very nice bonus that hopefully will make it into the october build .

Is your system 32 or 64 bit? Wordfast Pro is reported to have problems with 64-bit Linux distros (well, with 64-bit JRE actually), while it’s fine with 32 bit.

I'm afraid I'm completely new to Linux. It looks like I'm running 64-bit:
but I don't know how to check which JRE is running in Ubuntu. Please help me out. What problems do you have with 64-bit JRE, and can I try to (not) reproduce them?

You can check this probably via the terminal/shell. Just have to type in the right command.

Open Terminal.
For checking the installed Java packages:
java -version
For setting the default Java package:
update-alternatives --config java

As already advised, you should use java -version, and if the JRE is 64-bit, it will explicitly say so (normally). To make sure, run:
If you get an output like this:

I don’t actually, because I have a 32-bit version of openSUSE 11.4 and, respectively, a 32-bit system-wide JRE. I’ve just seen some repeated complaints in the Wordfast Pro mail list about WFP not running in a 64-bit system with a 32-bit JRE. They were advised to get a 32-bit JRE to run WFP.
I have no idea if I should change the settings…
Better not. Your output says, you have Java 6 (default in the system) and Java 7. So far, better stick to Java 6.

And that's what I got.
There was a problem with CT on 64-bit OS X as well, but that was related to Open/Libre/NeoOffice. You could either "connect" to OOo and enjoy the spellchecker (32-bit), or forget about OOo and spelling and increase the RAM assigned to JRE (64-bit). CT didn't run if you set Java to 64-bit and connected to OOo. This problem is non-existing for Linux, since OOo suites are or can be 64-bit, and for Windows and OS X it's still 32-bit only. Now CT uses Hunspell, and the problems are over.
