I am a freelance translator and editor. I have been in this industry since 1987. In 2002, I joined the South African Translators' Institute and was accredited as a professional translator in 2003. As most of my training up until that time was on-the-job training, I decided in 2004 to obtain a formal qualification. So, in December 2007 I completed the National Diploma (Language Practice) from UNISA, and in January 2010 I completed the Honours BA in Translation Studies.
I have always read widely and have an enquiring mind. This has been very useful in my career as translator, because I have developed a keen ear for what sounds 'right.' In my years as a translator/editor, I have also had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of text types, from medical, technical, literary, and other speciality fields to more general subjects.
I always aim to deliver projects ahead of time, if at all possible, and strive to produce translations that sounds as if they were authored in the target language.
