MA in Theory and Practice of Translation (Asian and African Languages)

The MA in Translation Theory and Practice (Asian and African Languages), which will start from September 2004, is unique in the world. It is in a position to compete with currently available MA programmes elsewhere in Britain and reach markets hitherto untapped (law, politics, business, human rights, refugee programmes, etc). The programme suits those planning to move on to MPhil/PhD research as well as those wishing to acquire the practical skills necessary for a career as professional translators.

The programme's strong points are (a) its range of languages and subject areas, (b) its scope and flexibility, and (c) the collaboration with UCL.

Languages:
Languages included from the outset are Arabic, Chinese, Japanese. It is planned to add Korean, Persian and Swahili for 2005-6, and other languages will be added in due course. Training is provided in translating both into and from English.
